Menu description: Grapefruit, citrus, roses. Interesting flavor, not like anything I’ve tried before.

Tasting notes: It starts out sort of sweet, but that taste vanishes so quickly, you’re not sure if you imagined it. Couple that with the fact that you no longer notice it after maybe a fourth of the bottle and it makes for a strange experience. It’s noticeably more bitter than my eternal standby, Sierra Nevada, which I’m OK with. A bit of variety is always nice. There’s almost a sort of spiciness to it as well, which makes it stand out from other IPAs.
Menu description: Brewed with tea, citrus & floral flavors, very yummy!! Subtle and balanced spice, notes of black tea, cloves and pepper.

Tasting notes: A sweet tasting and sweet smelling beer. It has an almost honey flavor with a hint of spice. There’s something else is going on in with the flavor that is tough to describe. Complex, yet inviting.
Menu description: Tart fruits, clove & pepper, clean & fresh.
ABV: 6.5%
Tasting notes: A tart but tasty finish. This has a fairly sweet, banana tinged aroma. That banana scent doesn’t carry over to the flavor, however. It’s a bit spiced and has a very mild citrus feel to it. There’s some sweetness to the flavor as well. It’s crisp and finishes with only a little bit of an aftertaste. Said aftertaste is a nice combo between sweet and tart. This has a light body and the carbonation takes a back seat.
Bottle description: Slightly tart with notes of peach and coriander.
ABV: 5.6%
My thoughts: This has a mild peach scent with slight undertones of malt. It tastes pretty peachy, which is nice. Its always a plus when a fruit based beer actually tastes like the fruit its allegedly made with instead of… well… nothing. Its got a sweet base with the promised slight tartness. You can taste the coriander as well (also surprising!) and it makes for a very nice contrast with the sweet fruit taste. Strong carbonation gives it a nice zing. Its got a very full body and is remarkably rich feeling. The color bears noting; its a rich, almost golden red color. It’s pretty eye catching and unique, which matches the unique flavor well. It leaves a very light and pleasant aftertaste that is reminiscent of its namesake fruit. I tore through a six pack of these pretty quick. It’s one of the more enjoyable beers I’ve had from Blue Moon. Their seasonals tend to be really hit or miss. I’m happy to say that this one was a solid hit.

I finished my night off with this fine beer. I first had it last November and it really caught my attention. Earlier in the year I had tried Sam Adams Double Chocolate Cherry, a beer that I can only describe as transcendent. Since then, I was looking for a beer with a similar cherry or chocolate flavor. This beer really nailed the cherry flavor.
Menu description: Cherry notes, brown sugar, mix of sweet spices.
ABV: 11%
My thoughts: A Belgian strong dark ale. This is quite good! It’s got a strong cherry taste and the spices really add to the character of the beer. It’s got an aroma reminiscent of bananas, oddly enough. It doesn’t taste like it’s a strong beer, which can be dangerous. Simply delightful!
Number of times I’ve had it: I’ve tried this on 3 separate occasions, most recently tonight, and it’s fantastic each time. This definitely gets a recommendation from me.
Update: Yeah, so this experiment in real time writing while drinking didn’t really go anywhere. I think I did this for maybe 2-3 weeks before calling it quits. Keeping notes in Evernote and fighting the WordPress app to update the website without posting enormous versions of the pictures and trying to actually hang out with my friends was just a bit too much to juggle at once.

So I’ve decided that on Mondays I’m gonna update this shit real time as I drink these beers. Unfortunately, this Monday all the beers are repeats from last week, so my thoughts are all from last week, but you haven’t seen them so you wouldn’t know anyway!
Menu description: Robust malt & spice flavors, great winter ale.
ABV: 5.5%
My thoughts: This is a very good beer. Malty goodness, which is hilarious for me to say because I’m typically not a big fan of malt flavors, as regular readers would know. Assuming I even have regular readers anymore. Or had them in the first place. Uh, so anyway, this beer is dark as night and smells pretty good. It’s very smooth and easy to drink. Not too strong, so you can have several. Highly recommended.
This is my 2nd glass now, and it’s even better than the first. Christmas seasonal beers are my 2nd favorite type of beer, after fall seasonals. They’re just so full of warm and fuzzy goodness. I don’t know how such a thing is possible and able to be shoved into a bottle, but there it is.
One time, at band camp work, I gave a bunch of good restaurant recommendations. One of my friends was all like “You’ve given us some great recommendations! We’re coming to you whenever we’re going out to eat.” Because I don’t always think things through, I decided to create a website where I can review local (LI/NY at the time) restaurants. Also I am a fatty, hence the name of the site.
That was how it started. I am notoriously lazy and didn’t update more than once or twice a year, if that. There were some dark times, but I am setting off on a renewed venture (Narrator: he stalled almost as soon as he started up again) to bring you not only food reviews from wherever I am stuffing my face (I’ve been to CA and back to NY!), but also infinite beer reviews, because who doesn’t like beer?
